We shoot Target Rifle (TR). TR requires iron sights, sling and a shooting jacket. The rifle must be held via the triangulation of the support elbow and the (rifle-attached) sling looping around the bicep (no front or rear rest for the rifle allowed!)
Modern TR is a historical form of the sport with roots in mid 20th century Service Rifle shooting. For this reason, calibers are limited to military-esque, with restrictions placed on projectile weights. Projectiles must not exceed weights 155.5gr and 80.5gr for the allowed calibers .308 and .223 respectively.
TR is seperated into grades A, B and C and is an internationally recognised form of the sport. TR has a following in many countries around the world, even being at times recognized as a Commonwealth Games sport.
TR permits the use of a small 0.5 magnifying lens either the front or rear sight, often in the form of what’s referred to as the “Eagle Eye”.
