Target shooting is an individual sport, where participants are mostly competing against themselves. For this reason, generally there is nothing to be gained from snobbery on the mound. You will find in most cases, your cohort will be more than willing to offer advice and guidance in times of learning.

The term “coaching” also encompasses formal, teams event shooting. During a season, many clubs (Sydney Rifle Club included) participate in the prestigous “Grade” shoots, at least one at each distance throughout the year. Grade shooting is a club vs club event that dates back to the early years of the sport.

Within a club, teams are formed for the various disciplines, and multiple squads can be formed depending on numbers. The aggregate score of the squad for the targetted discipline is finally submitted to an MDRA collective, whereby clubs compete for line honours.

Shooting on such Grade days is the perfect opportunity for members to be coached by more senior members.
