Sydney Rifle Club shoots Sporter Hunter class. Sporter Hunter is the most recent addition to the lineup of categories and was created as a more accesible entry for those new to target shooting. It allows such individuals to compete with their factory-issued rifles without incuring the high cost of the generally custom-built rifles (found in other categories). There is no restrictions on caliber; so think carefully about a choice of rifle before committing to purchasing.

Sporter Hunter requires a light Harris-style bipod be attached to the rifle and the overall weight including all attachments must not exceed 6.5kg. In addition, the barrel length cannot exceed 26 inches.

Since its inception Sporter Hunter has been further split into two sub categories Open (SPO) and Production (SPC). SPC class requires generally a factory issued rifle whereby the total cost of the rifle reflects this. Refer to the NRA SSRs for more information. SPO permits fully custom rifles, with no limit on cost or customisation. Furthermore SPO can be up to 10kg in total weight. Think of SPO as “F-light”.
